Is It warm enough for you?

The news said today was supposed to be the hottest day on record, I think they got it right for once,
It was 24°C when I got in the car to go to work this morning and 38°C when I came home at 1.pm.

I'm in denial of the heat when i'm in the office all morning with the air conditioning on, but as soon as I step out the door it's like stepping of the plane when you go on holiday, the wall of heat just hits you.  I came right back home today, no way was I walking around town in that heat.

I haven't done a lot in the way of crafting this week, apart from being too hot I've had a cough that's kept me awake most nights since the weekend.   I had Bonnie yesterday and Tuesday but came home at tea time both days and lay on the sofa to try and get a bit of rest.  Anyway, I feel a little better today so hopefully the worst is over.

I picked my first few sweet peas from the garden this week :-)

Not many yet but the beautiful smell from just these few has filled the sitting room, you can smell them when you walk out onto the patio too.  It's the first time I've grown sweet peas so i'm happy they have produced some flowers.

Just a few other things that have been doing well too

Roses
This one was already here when we moved in and has never produced many flowers, until this year

I planted this one last year, it's on it's second lot of blooms this season

Courgettes
I have a courgette I can pick, lol
(No rude comments now please πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†)

I'm so happy that these have grown, but is it ok to just pick one or two as they become big enough?
These are a first too so I have no idea.

Lettuce leaves, another first.

I have been picking these leaves quite regularly, I sowed some more seeds a couple of weeks ago to keep it going, they have saved me quite a bit of money really, Mark won't eat salad and if I by a bagged salad or salad bowl I usually end up throwing half away.  So this gets a big thumbs up from me :-)

(We put copper tape around the container and have not had any problem from the slimy creatures)

Lilies
Some yellow flowers have joined the pink ones.
These are really tall, i'm glad i had the foresight to put a support around them

Just so you can see how hot it really is, even my hydrangea flowers are wilting in the heat.  I've just been out and given it a good watering, hopefully it will perk up.

A sneaky purchase.  I was bored at work one morning and was browsing yarns, I came across West Green Loft Yarns and treated myself to two more little minis for my blanket.

These are Miss Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Bingley

I'm just loving these pastel shades at the moment, it's strange how I always seem to be drawn to blue shades, even though if you asked me I wouldn't choose blue as a favourite colour.
I can't wait to start on my mitred square blanket once the weather cools down.

I'm going to try and do some stitching on Arthur's stocking for the rest of the afternoon and watch a couple of podcasts.

Stay cool 😎
See you soon

Oh my goodness, it's too warm for me. We've been at Eleanor's graduation today and it was stifling, I felt so sorry for them all having to wear their gowns and caps. I haven't done any knitting for the last few days, my hands are just too hot all the time to pick up wool. I haven't sown sweet peas for the last few years but they're so lovely with such a gorgeous scent. It seems to be a good year for roses. Yes, just pick courgettes as they become large enough, just one plant usually produces plenty. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I really enjoyed this post, your flowers and vegetables are doing so well, and you've shared some great photographs.

Sorry that you haven't been feeling too well. This awful hot weather doesn't help. I think from tomorrow (Friday) it's meant to be getting cooler … I do hope so. Feel better soon and stay as cool as you can.

All the best Jan

Oh your roses and lilies! How nice to have such great vegetables. I enjoyed the vegetable garden when we had our home. :)

I live in the Pacific NW and we are one of the few places, I think, in the whole world that has had a pretty nice summer. I hate the heat so I am exceedingly grateful for that. At least your garden looks very pretty. Hope you feel better soon.

Here in Germany there is also just a heat wave, yesterday were measured over 40 degrees, that's even too hot for me. I stay in the cooler living room, but it is also very warm there.
Let's see what the weekend brings, it should be thunderstorms and rain. Maybe it brings a bit of cooling.
Have a good time, Martina

Your sweet peas are delightful and so are those mini skeins! Yes, pick the courgettes when they are dark and firm, or they will go squishy very quickly. We love ours cooked with tomatoes, black pepper and a bit of garlic as a side instead of regular veg. Hot and humid here and very unpleasant to work in ( no A/C ) we just open doors and windows and have lots of fans. We've had short bursts of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Best, Jane x

Heat wave everywhere... crossed fingers for your hydrangea. I love this plant, but I am not able to keep it alive!!!
Have a nice week end ,

The courgette looks perfect, I bet it was nice and tasty and like th others say just pick when its big enough for you. Well done with the lettuce too, so much tastier when picked, plated and eaten within 10 mins. Hope your cough is soon a thing of the past, its bad enough not sleeping with the heat without having a cough too. Take care. x

Oh, that IS hot, Maggie! We were over in Europe from the 16th-24th, but it hadn't reached those temperatures then--thank goodness! Hope things are cooler soon for you all...

I so love those pretty sweet peas and pretty purple hydrangeas. Our hydrangeas wilt with the sun each day, but generally perk up at dusk.

Enjoy these last few days of July!

Your garden looks so lovely and the yarn, oh that beautiful pastels. I couldn't have resisted buying those either.

Happy stitching!

Lovely photos. Dudley zoo was a regular outing when I was a child.
I remember being utterly terrified of the rickety chair lift!
