Sweet Sixteen

On Thursday 21st April 1994 at 11.27pm my youngest daughter Stevie-Leigh made her arrival into the world, weighing in at a hefty 9lb 11oz, (can i hear a collective 'ouch'!!).

It must have been something to do with the craving i had for milk when i was pregnant, i drank gallons of the stuff, not in the normal way, it had to be put in the freezer until little ice crystals formed and i would eat it with a spoon! glass after glass went in the freezer day after day, funny thing is, before i got pregnant i didn't really like milk and would never ever drink a glass, and it goes without saying that after the event i have never drunk milk!! I had a similar relationship with raw carrots, couldn't get enough of them! until i read something about carotene poisoning, i remember going to my doctors for an antenatal appointment and asking him in a panic if i was going to have an orange baby!! He laughed and said 'No, he didn't think so' (whilst giving me a look that said 'we have a right one here!')

This is Stevie at about 3 or 4 months old with a rather puzzled look on her face!

As you can see, i didn't have an orange baby! She is really tall though, at 5' 9" she is way taller than most of her friends

Happy 16th Birthday Stevie!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you all for your kind comments on my LHN ornie and the congratulations and well wishes for my #1DD. Her passing out ceremony went well, (i have since learnt that the official name for this is an Attestation), she will be in training now for the next 17 weeks before she is let loose on catching criminals! there is lots to learn, she is getting tons of reading/homework but is loving every minute.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

I've given this week up to finishing my ABC and thanks to the frog hopping it and an almost all day stitching fest on Saturday I'm primed for a finish for the weekend.
No stiching tonight, as we went out for a meal in honor of the Birthday Girl, but I'll be getting a numb bum on Thursday & Friday night to get that finish :-)

Speak soon. x

  2. Hi Maggie,

    Your daughter Stevie is lovely!
    Hope that she had a wonderful
    birthday and the year ahead is
    a great one for her.

    It's funny how those cravings
    manifest during pregnancy. I
    must confess that I've never
    tried drinking "frosty" milk.
    It sounds like it was more
    like ice cream (ice milk) then
    a beverage. But at least it
    was good for you, and the baby.

    I do love milk myself, but it
    has to be cold from the fridge
    and it's best with something
    chocolaty or with grilled
    cheese sandwiches. Mmmmmm.

    And congratulations to your
    eldest daughter for being
    accepted for training as a
    Police constable. Sounds like she'll have her nose to the grindstone for 17 weeks but
    has lots of determination and dedication to achieving her
    goals.

    He's a Flake turned out so
    cute and I love how you've
    put those little bells on
    the one corner of the
    finished piece. Cool idea.

    I love that ABC design and
    have it in my freebie file
    to be stitched. I always
    have a problem choosing
    colors for projects like this
    that allows the stitcher to
    pick whatever colorway appeals
    to her. I'm not very confident
    in my ability to choose colors
    that will truly compliment one
    another. But this looks like
    such a fun design to stitch I
    might have to take a chance
    and choose some colors and see
    how it goes.

    Your version of this design
    looks spectacular by the way!
    Hope that the frogs are leaving
    you and it alone now.

    Hope you'll post more pictures
    of your garden as the Spring
    and Summer seasons progress.
    Your header with the daffodils
    that you and your daughter
    planted is gorgeous!!

    Believe me Maggie, Michael's
    prices for framing are just
    horrendous, even with the 60%
    off coupons. I shudder to
    think what the full price
    would have been for framing
    my little sampler.

    Just finished reading a great
    Egyptian historical fiction
    novel The Heretic Queen by
    Michelle Moran and I highly
    recommend her books to you.

    Cheers!!

  6. I hope your daughter had a lovely 16th Birthday!

    My youngest turns 16 in November, and she was 11lb 1.5oz, so I know how you felt! My other two were both 9lb-plus, too!

    Talking about cravings, I went mad for tinned minced beef in gravy during one pregnancy, and I totally went off scented soap during another - had to get unscented stuff for the duration...

  8. Wishing your beautiful daughter a very happy birthday! Had to laugh about the orange baby. Wonder if that look was her thinking did my mum really want to create an orange baby???

    Thanks for your comment about me picking my sampler back up too. You inspired me to do it, and yes, I remember you starting it after seeing mine. I was having so much fun stitching it and then... but I am back to it now and will try and finish it sometime in May. I just love anything with an alphabet on it but have you noticed there have not been any SAL online with them lately? If you hear of one, give me a shout?

    Hugs from Holland ~
