Summer with Suzannah

Normally when we go away I don't take any stitching with me, but as we were staying in the UK and knew the weather was going to be mixed I took Suzannah with me.

This is how she looked before

And how she looks now :-)

Good progress eh?  Amazing what stitching you can get done when housework and cooking don't get in the way!

As Suzannah had got so much attention last week I worked on Seasons in Chalk Art by Hands on Designs on Sunday afternoon.

I think this Is the first outing of this piece on my blog.

Ops, I left a needle poking through!

It's hard to get a good photo with it being on the q snaps, the light is showing though too much

These charts are a collaboration between Cathy of Hands on Design and Priscilla, Priscilla does these amazing chalk board pictures and Cathy has turned a lot of them into cross stitch designs.  All four seasons were in Just Cross Stitch magazine a few years ago.
You can still purchase the back issues as downloads, which is what I did.

This is the first time I've stitched anything on black fabric, so I opted for Aida hoping that I wouldn't have trouble seeing the holes, and so far I've found it ok.

I've been catching up on tidying the garden this week, our garden definitely looks it's best in the Spring but I've planted some of the pots up this week which should hopefully give us a bit of colour soon.

Some Bizzie Lizzies

Sweet Peas.
I've never grown Sweet Peas before, so fingers crossed

I grew the Lillies from bulbs, can you believe that these were all planted at the same time!

 And my Hostas

I just love these so much!

You can't really tell from the photo but these are about 4 feet across.

I put copper tape around the pot about four years ago and since then I've had no trouble with slugs or snails

That's it for today, I hope you all have a good week

Until next time

Thank you .................I had a plant in our yard that I couldn't identify. By your photo, I know it is a lily!!

Suzannah looks pretty good with her curly red hair. :-)

You have just given me an idea about planting some sweet peas, I have the perfect container for them. Love how your cross stitch projects are coming along.

All the plants look so good. I have never grown hostas in pots, yours look wonderful. You certainly did get lots of stitching done! It's looking good.

Great stitching , it's good to have the time to stitch .
Try a white pillow case on your lap when stitching on dark colours it's so much better to see your stitches.

Your stitching is so beautiful! I love the chalkboard stitching. I had a go at cross stitch, ooh long ago, and it wasn't very successful. I'm a bit cack-handed and all fingers and thumbs at anything that requires dexterity. We went away for a few days and I took my crochet, bit as the weather was beautiful I didn't do very much, just a little in the evenings. Best, Jane :)

Not tried stitching on dark fabric yet. Love how yours is turning out!

Your garden looks good, I have sweet peas in, but I've never had much luck with them. I have my lillies in 2 pots, one pot they are huge, the other pot they are not showing, I have moved the 2nd pot I hope they will grow. I have totaly lost my cross stich mojo, but as you say at home there is never enough time to stitch.

I usually take a craft project on holiday with me but I rarely get much done, you've done a great job with Suzannah. I like the effect that the black fabric gives the Seasons design. Wow, your hosta is fabulous. I've just bought some scarlet red geraniums from Lidl, I've got two tall blue glazed pots that I stand by my back door and they look great planted up with bright red geraniums.

Your stitching looks great! That Summer Seasons In Chalk Art pattern is one I have and always plan to do.

Lovely progress on your pieces, Maggie--glad the black isn't giving you any issues! And I so appreciate the tip on the copper tape--my hostas seem to be having slug issues at the moment so perhaps that will be helpful for them :)

Both are nice projects you've been working on Maggie.
Lots of pretty blooms in the garden to look forward to, our hostas are amazing this year, must have been the wet earlier in the year.

Great progress on your pieces, on black fabric, I have not dared yet.
Very beautiful flower pictures, I like your columbines. I have none in pink, mine are all in dark purple.
Have a good Time, Martina

All your flowers are gorgeous. The cooper ring is an interesting idea. I'm wondering how I might incorporate the idea since my hostas are all planted in the ground, not pots. Any ideas? I had to laugh when you said you typically don't take stitching with you with you travel, as I'm the opposite. I always do. I spend more time often thinking about what to pack then I do my close etc, lol. You got a lot done, and they're looking great. The only time I travel and don't take stitching with me, is when we're part of an organized tour group. You really have no down time when on tour.

Your garden looks good, and such a good idea using the copper band around the Hosta's.

All the best Jan
