6th day of Advent - Cake!

It's late.  I'm met up with some friends tonight for a curry, we haven't got together since March (!!) but it could have been last week, we have known each other since our youngest kids were in toddler group, so probably 24 years.  We always have a laugh and put the world to rights.  I love that we can go so long in between seeing each other and still pick up where we left off, no awkwardness between us.  That's how it should be with friends isn't it?

I still wanted to write a blog post even though it's way past my bedtime, but it's not a 'school night' so that's ok :-)

Cake does seem to feature quite a lot in my posts doesn't it so why should Advent be any different :-)

Do you make a Christmas cake?
Every year I say "I'm going to make a Christmas cake"  and I never do, but this year, I did :-)

Marlene, aka Poppy Patchwork makes a cake every Christmas, this year she has made two, one for herself and one for her daughter and she kindly sent me a copy of the recipe she uses.
Thank you again Marlene :-)

I made mine three weeks ago and have been feeding it brandy once a week.  I don't think I will feed it any more after this week though, I don't want to too 'boozy'

(my cake looks a little burnt in the photo but it's not, it must have been the light)

I haven't got a tin large enough so I'm keeping it tight;s wrapped until it's ready to decorate

I think i'm going to keep the decoration simple, which reminds me, I will have to make a trip to the cake decorating shop next week to buy something to put on top.

The funny thing about me making this cake is that most people in my family don't really like Christmas cake, oh well, more for me :-)

Here are my lovely Advent minis from today

From Jo (with another little extra)
From Craft House Magic
From Lay Family Yarn

My Body Shop gift today was a glossing shampoo

Hope you had a good day, see you tomorrow

My husband is the only one that likes fruit cake in this family. So each year I buy him a small one from the grocery. Yours looks much nicer.

God bless.

I have never made a Christmas cake but I don't think they are quite as common here in the US, yours looks delicious!

None of my family like Christmas cake, Christmas pudding or mince pies so I never do any festive baking. My grandma always used to make Christmas cakes for each of her sons' and daughter, they were never iced though. My dad always had Christmas cake with a slice of Wensleydale cheese, I think it's a Yorkshire thing.

We don't make a Christmas cake either, we just buy a small slice one from M&S. Your Advent gifts look gorgeous! Best, Jane x

Your cake looks yummy. I remember when the kids were young I would make the cake and usually we ate it before Christmas and I had to make another, similar with tins of sweets, lol

I'm so glad you made the cake, it looks wonderful. Everyone here love fruit cake, so neither of the ones I have made will last long. Daughter and her hubby always has a first slice on Christmas eve, today I have to marzapan one and ice the other, then I will settle down and make some toppers.

Used to make a Christmas Fruitcake, which my husband loved. Not the awful, hard, brick-like fruitcake, which is the stuff-of-many-jokes. It was delicious.

And the best part was lacing it with Brandy.

Sadly he was very sick, a few years ago, and since then, has not been able to have any alcohol. So, no lacing with Brandy. I haven't made any.

But he loves a Mincemeat Pie! One can put some Brandy in, before baking, so that works. :-)
