It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Well sort of.

The tree is up but not decorated, all the Christmas decoration boxes have been stacked in the conservatory since Saturday waiting for me to find my enthusiasm to start, but I can't shake the 'can't be bothered' attitude.  But I know already that most things will stay in the boxes this year, as I get older as well as getting grumpier (ha ha), I'm also finding I want less 'stuff' around me.

Anyway, I haven't been around for a few weeks and I've probably put most of you off reading the rest by moaning 🤣

Yesterday was my middle daughter, Joanne's birthday, she turned 38.   The girls have money for birthday's, they are all grown and can go and treat themselves or put the money towards something.  She has Wednesday's off work so we went into town, lunch and cake was on me and she also picked out a couple things she wanted for Christmas, we also got some bits for the kids stockings.

I also made her a cushion, which wasn't for her birthday really but as It's Christmas/Winter, it was the right time to give it to her.  She bought a cushion front years ago and never got round to making it, when she moved and was having a clear out she gave it to me saying that she would probably never get round to It.  That was two years ago and I've just got round to it 🤭

I had to buy the piping but that's all, the backing fabric was also in with what she gave me, I think it was once a shirt of hers, and the inner pillow I already had.

I made a simple envelope back and I think the fabric is perfect for it.

I've never put piping on a pillow before, it's not perfect but the perfectionist in me thought It was pretty good for a first attempt.  She liked it, and I'm glad a couple bits of fabric are gone out of my stash, so win win.

I leave you with a picture of my un-decorated tree, It looks ok as it is to be fair, but I'll get round to making it all pretty in the next few days, when I can locate my enthusiasm.

Your un-decorated tree looks pretty with its twinkling lights.

All the best Jan

Your tree looks beautiful with just the lights. I see you have a Christmas cactus too.

You've made a lovely job of the cushion, Joanne must be thrilled with it. I think I have more enthusiasm for Christmas decorating now that I have more time on my hands than I did when the kids were little, my tree certainly goes up sooner than it used to. I do the same, money for birthdays, gifts for Christmas.

I think the older you get the harder it is to decorate year after year. I do less on the years that my sons and grandkids aren't here, but this year there will be 10 of us in the house so I'm going all out. Your pillow is lovely and I hope your daughter has a wonderful year ahead. December birthdays are hard! My middle son turns 40 today--unbelievable!

While I did manage to get the tree decorated and a few of my angels that don't fit on said tree placed, the rest of the decor is still in a box or two.

God bless.

I love the British Robin's. The ones we have here in Canada and the USA are tall and skinny. I love how the British ones are short, plump and fluffy!! Your tree looks lovely as is.

Love the Robin cushion for your daughter, Joanne, my daughter's name too! We're slow getting Christmas stuff up too this year just can't get the enthusiasm going.

I have put our tree and decorations up now but only with about half as much as last year and I am happy with the result.
The cushion with the robin looks fab and the backing is perfect. I'm sure Joanne is very happy with the result. Hope you find your motivation to put up a few things but if not, the tree looks very pretty with just the lights.

I hate getting money from my mother for my birthday, there was nothing to treasure that she'd chosen herself. I was expected to do the work of buying something so the money ended up in my purse with the housekeeping. I didn't need money I had plenty of my own.

That's a shame. My girls are happy to have the money, they do buy themselves something with it, my choice would not always be theirs, better they have something they want than waste money on something they don't want.
I'm sure your mum would want you to spend it on something nice, not for it to end up as money for grocery, but that's your choice.
