Already I'm playing catch-up with posting my makes, so before we get too far into February these are the two things I got finished in January.
A cosy hot water bottle cover
I use my water bottle a lot, If I sit down I have my hot water bottle beside me, I don't put the heating on in the daytime and It's surprising how by just having a hot water bottle on your back can make a difference. And of course I take It to bed too, in fact, there are not many months in the year when I don't have a hot water bottle on my feet in bed, It must be a comfort thing, ha ha.
Having so much use the cover that came with the bottle had seen better days, I came across the free pattern on Ravelry and the yarn is some Drops Nepal I had in stash and It knit up in a few evenings.
The socks were cast on on Christmas Eve and finished on January 25th. In truth these were knitted almost twice, they started life with a pattern but I didn't like it so ripped them back when I got to the heel. I think because of the yarn they look better plain, but they were a nightmare from start to finish, entirely my own fault, counting mistakes and generally not paying attention, I was glad when they were off the needles! But I do like them. I used a mini from stash for the heels and toes and I'm afraid I lost the ball band so can't tell you what make the main yarn was 🙄
I still haven't picked up any stitching but I have got my dough bowl of previous valentine/February pieces displayed. Maybe I'll feel in the mood to stitch soon, who knows.

I love your socks, I'm not normally a fan of orange, they are pretty colours, you have been very busy, I did not make anything in January, I spent most of my time reading.
Thank you, I think the colours are not coming out true, the toes and heels on the socks are yellow/gold not orange, haha
I am off to get that pattern. I could use a nice hot water bottle cover.
God bless.
Those socks are so pretty. Truly!
I also love your Valentine's stitches. I hardly have any V stitches. I really need to rectify that. I get the stitching slump. There has just not been anything new that really spoke to my style lately either which has mostly put me in a stitching slump.
I like your socks and hot water bottle cover.
Your Valentine/February bowl looks nice.
All the best Jan
I'm the same with hot water bottles, I have one whenever I sit down in winter. I bought a new one before Christmas with the plan to knit a cover but Daniel and Jasmine bought me one with a Moomins cover for Christmas and I also received one in my Twelve Days of Christmas swap with Lisa so my plan is on hold for now. I don't think you can have too many hot water bottles though, haha. I think patterned yarn looks better plain as a knitted pattern often gets lost, your socks have turned out beautifully. What a pretty display your stitching makes.
I love the socks, the yarn is so pretty. I also like the hot water bottle cover. I must knit a cover for mine. I don't use it a lot as I have a dog who tend to sleep on the bed by my feet and so I stay delightfully warm.
Love your bowl of Valentine's Day pretties, Maggie! I am the opposite--I have way too many Valentine's Day smalls. I'm having to divide them into the red themed and the pink themed :) I just saw a show on differences between England and the U.S. and one of the things they mentioned was how common hot water bottle usage is over there! I may have to give it a try because we've had one frigid winter so far. Love the cover you knit for it. And, even though your socks gave you fits, they sure turned out pretty! Enjoy your weekend! ♥
I really like the hot water bottle cover. I think we have one (but not quite sure where it is) but it sounds so comforting right now. The cold is just seeping in everywhere (not literally but its just cold!!) I enjoyed stopping by your blog today!
I love your dish of xstitch ornies, I do miss stitching, and love the socks.. I usually knit some for my youngest G/son's birthday in March so best start them, I'm slower these days.
I love your dough bowl of valentines things, just perfect. I am doing the back stitch on a project now, and hating my life....LOL I said to another blogger the other day, I am envious of anyone who can knit socks, I couldn't get the hang of it at all! Yours look lovely.
This is such a cozy post and I am seriously impressed that you finished those socks after knitting them twice because I would have probably given up after the first time lol do you think the hot water bottle cover helps it stay warm longer or is it just for the super cute aesthetic have a lovely and happy weekend and I actually just shared a new travel post that you are invited to read at www.melodyjacob.com
Beautiful socks. I have some lovely hand-knitted alpaca socks with matching fingerless gloves. I like my hot water bottles in their cosy covers. Two for bedtime. I tuck one between the layers of jumpers under my thick coat, when I have to go out in the cold. We replace rubber h.w.bs regularly for safety.
Thank you. I really liked the yarn otherwise I think i would have given up on the socks! Happy now they are finished.
Thank you Chris, I'm hoping that my stitching mojo will return at some point this year.
Thank you, alpaca socks and gloves sound lovely and cosy. A hot water bottle is a must in this cold damp weather :-)
I love the socks now they are finished, they were a labour of love because i really loved the yarn!
Thank you Jan x
I use a hot water bottle a lot at this time of year and it always makes me feel cosy warm. I'm sure your cover will keep it warm for longer. Lovely pattern with the cable. The socks are so pretty even if they were a nightmare to knit. The colours make me think of Spring and oh boy am I looking forward to that. Just doing a little stitching at the moment but not valentine related. Hope you get you stitching mojo back soon; you always make some beautiful things.
