I dug down deep into my stash for a new start last week. I've had this chart for so long I can't remember when I bought it or where from. It contains two of my favourite things to stitch, alphabets and houses, so goodness knows why it's taken me so long to get round to it.
I'm using 28 count vintage country mocha and the recommended threads, so how come my colours look nothing whatsoever like the picture???
I'm a bit disappointed to be honest, I mean, you know there is going to be some colour change in the photos, but this is just nothing like! I know I could have gone back through my threads and pulled out some that look more like on the picture but once I'd started I just didn't want to go in search all over again and I still like it despite the difference.
Something else that was buried deep in my stash, a little stack of mini solid granny squares.
There were just enough to make Bonnie a blanket for her dolls bed.
I haven't been buying much in the way of charts or yarn this year but I treated myself to a Red Work stitchery last week after seeing Katrina's post on IG.
I've never done one before but have always admired Katrina's work when she shows them on her blog. Can't wait to get started on this :-)
This particular one comes with the design already printed on the fabric, so all I need to do is sort out the thread.
We've had lots of time sitting in the garden this week, making the most of the beautiful weather while we can. I'm happy with how the garden is looking at the moment, I've put the cosmos in this week and still have the zinnias to do, hopefully between them they will give us some lovely colour over the summer.
The roses are just starting to appear, not many white ones on the climber just yet but the others are doing well.
Have a lovely week.

I agree the colours are not the same. bummer. Nice stitch thou. Love your roses. hugs
I like your new start very well, even if the house is a little darker than the picture. But I've already had such experiences. The important thing is that you like it.
Oh and the Redwork motif is great, I really like that too.
Take good care of yourself.

Lovely Little blanket , my GGD asked me for one last week so will add one to her
Christmas gifts this year .
Your stitching looks good any way .
Love Redwork it's nice to stitch for a change .
Enjoy your week .
I think your new cross stitch looks lovely, despite the colour differing from the illustration. It's a bit off though really when you follow the thread recommended and it comes out totally different to that shown. I'd seen Katrina's Red Work on her blog, it's really lovely and I like the design you've chosen. I look forward to seeing your progress on it. I'm sure Bonnie will be thrilled with her dolly blanket, a very good use for the little squares. I keep seeing beautiful roses on blogs yet I haven't got one solitary rose blooming yet. I think they may have been pruned a little too harshly, my own fault really as I left Mick to do the deed and he cuts things to within an inch of their lives. Oh well, they'll flower eventually I suppose.
The Weathered Garden looks great, it's nice to find something in your stash. Bonnie's doll's Quilt is lovely, beautiful soft colours.
I agree that the color difference is dramatically different for The Weathered Garden Maggie. As long as you like it, don't worry about it. Bonnie's little blanket is just darling. Your roses are just lovely!
That is always so frustrating when the colors don't appear as they do on the chart photo! After all, that is why we buy a chart because of the look of the finished piece. But, it still looks nice, Maggie. And I love the sweet doll blanket you made for Bonnie. Lucky little girl to have a crafty grandmother :)
Your roses are just breathtaking--you must have the ideal climate and soil over there. I think a lot of people around the world are spending more time in their gardens--they'll look the best they have in years, I bet :) Hope June is a lovely month for you and your family ♥
How frustrating that your stitched colours do not look the same as the photo. Your colours look good thought. The doll's blanket was a good idea for those mini Granny squares. I've admired that redwork design as well.
Such beautiful roses! Loving the blanket too :)
Yes, the colour is different but it still looks good.
Love the dolls blanket and your garden roses look fabulous.
Happy June Wishes.
All the best Jan
Cute dolls blanket using up the squares.
What a shame the colours are so different, hope its not put you off finishing it completely.
Redwork always looks stunning. A sweet design you have chosen.
Disappointing that the colours are so different but what you've stitched looks nice and that little dollys blanket very pretty.
Your roses are beautiful and so is your stitching.
God bless.
Your garden is looking beautiful and I love your cross stitch the colours look fine to me but I know how it is when your expectations are different just go with it the finished result will be delightful. It's great when you find a use for things that have been stashed away for ages, the little blanket is perfect. I love the Redwork, I would love to do something like that I'm right into my embroidery at the moment. Have a great week.
Love the blanket and your garden is stunning.
