Hoot in a Boot was a new start at the Somerset retreat in March, It's the only thing I've been stitching on since so I've made good progress.
I'd knitted the second sleeve down to the cuff ribbing a few nights ago and tried it on again. When I looked again I thought It looked too big. I did knit a gauge swatch and it's the same size I knit previously, but this one just feels too big in the body, and I've got a sneaky feeling it might 'grow' when washed, perhaps this yarn wasn't the best choice for this project. So, I've decided, (more or less) to rip it all back and use the yarn for something else.
I know, all that work,😭
I do love how it looks on the hanger, but I probably wouldn't wear it if it feels big. I'd considered ripping back to the underarms but I think the increases start in the yolk, I'll check first before ripping it all out.
Arty had a birthday this week, can't believe he is seven already!
We haven't had the promised rain here yet, well, not enough to make any difference anyway so I've popped down the allotment this morning to water what we planted and now I'm going outside to plant up my sweet peas. My conservatory is in danger of being taken over by the runner beans I planted too early so I'm going to throw caution to the wind and plant them out over the weekend. If they survive, great, if they don't I have some more beans I can put in to replace them.
We haven't got anything planned for the Easter weekend, Mark is off work until Tuesday and other than taking some flowers to the crem tomorrow I don't think we will be doing anything. The kids will pop in on Sunday for their Easter eggs, I'm not doing a egg hunt this year. I've bought them one egg and some sweets each, It's hard for me not to over-indulge them but with four children to buy for it can get out of hand.
Hope you have a lovely Easter weekend whatever you are planning.

I hate to see the sweater undone, but I get it. If it doesn't fit right you won't wear it. Just more to occupy the hands, I say. I had to look up the boot pattern. That is so cute.
Enjoy the kiddos this Sunday. I love that each of my grand boys have such a unique personality.
The design on your jumper is so pretty, it's better to unpick and reuse the yarn, it is what I would do. Our grand children grow up so quickly, we will have an 'egg' hunt here. We have rain, it's cold as well, roll on summer.
But it looks gorgeous, all that work but I know how you feel, I'd do the same..we have and are having enough rain here to warrant an ark! But the shrubs and plants are loving it.
Oh after all your work, that jumper looks so nice...but I guess you've got to do whatever you think best!
Happy Easter Wishes.
All the best Jan
Could you make the sweater in a smaller size? I love how it looks. Arty looks like he is having a great time.
God bless.
Oh no such a lovely sweater , try wearing it first and see , maybe if you washed it in very hot water it could shrink a bit.
What a lovely GS he looks so lovely.
We are just resting after a busy time the last few weeks .
I send my family, money so they can buy their own Easter eggs .
With 11 GGC who live all over the UK it's the best way , but I do miss having them all here , but I do have a few not far away .
Have a wonderful Easter with your family hugs June.
Oh no, such a shame to have to rip it all back after all that work but it's no good just finishing it off if you're not going to wear it. It looks so lovely too. I can't believe that Arty is seven already, where does all that time go. I hope he had a lovely birthday.
Oh, a great new beginning, I really like it already. Yes, I know that feeling too, but it's better if you unpick it now, as if the sweater were lying in the closet.
Have a nice April,
Martina
I feel your pain in ripping back even if it is the right decision. I've just started a Fair Isle and have had difficulty in getting the tension square the right size. It appeared to be right, but when I started knitting the main pattern it was too small. So like you a bit of ripping back. Also the pattern graph seems a bit off. I shall persist though.
Your 'Hoot in a Boot' sewing is looking lovely and you sound happy with how it is going. Shame about the sweater when you put so much work into the knitting, but if it doesn't make you feel good when you wear it, maybe ripping it back is the answer.
Arty looks like he is enjoying his pizza and chips. Happy Birthday to Arty.
We have had some rain here now, hope you had some too.
Have a good rest of the week.
What Sandy above said...ripping out is never fun and a bit discouraging; but having something that just doesn't feel quite right wouldn't be worn; so perhaps a different project with the yarn is best. Good luck. Love the detail in the yoke, looks pretty tedious. The Hoot in a boot is going to be soooooo cute. Anxious to see it come along. Kids grow up fast don't they.
Oh, no! I'm so sorry that your sweater is too big, Maggie--all that work! Can you finish it and just give it to someone larger? At the same time, the yarn is so pretty that I'm sure you'll re-use it for something that fits well. Very cute Halloween piece and Happy Birthday to your grandson. I'm sure the four grandkids were very happy to receive their eggs and candy. I really try not to over-indulge mine and I only have one :) Enjoy your day! ♥
Beautiful! I've seen too many of these thrown out, being in the dumpster rental industry. Thanks for sharing.
Oh no! I hate to see the sweater undone. I have watch in amazement as is has gotten bigger with each post. It is such a beautiful piece.
