Ridiculous! (bit of a rant)

I popped our nearest Aldi yesterday and this is what I found.

No there hasn't been a zombie apocalypse warning, but the media did hype up the weather warning, and what does everyone do?  They buy bread of course! Personally I've never understood why bread is the first thing to sell out, we only buy it very occasionally, I could happily live without it altogether.

They also cleared the shelves of vegetables, meat and eggs and coffee and tea!

What is wrong with people!  Hording and stockpiling food doesn't sit well with me, I just can't understand it, buy what you need and perhaps one extra, you are not going to starve! perhaps then there would be enough for anyone else who couldn't get to the supermarket until after work.

All this was because the media said we were due the biggest snow fall for ten years, at least a foot or more in our area they said.

And yes we have had snow, this much when I got up this morning.

Nowhere near the amount that was predicted and as I'm typing this it has mostly turned to slush and I wouldn't be surprised if it's all but gone tomorrow.

I wonder if all those who raided the Aldi yesterday are feeling silly now they have umpteen loaves of bread to get through.  More importantly, how much of what was bought will go to waste?

I do wonder how much of the excess will go to landfill, I'm with you its stupid behaviour.

Looks like they probably haven't received their warehouse delivery due to the bad weather

The weather wasn't bad at that point so deliveries had got through, this was just people being greedy and the media scaring the public into buying more than they needed.

Goodness me! Peoples behaviour!
Perhaps Aldi should have put restrictions on purchases e.g no more than three of anything ... just a thought!?

All the best Jan

I can't believe the selfishness of people sometimes, yes restrictions would have been a good idea.

I can remember the great toilet paper run during the early days of the Covid pandemic. Oh and the sanitizer run as well. My friends husband probably had a year or more of toilet paper and at least that much in hand sterilizer as well. His excuse was he was purchasing for 4 families, except that their youngest son lives over 1000 km. away and wouldn't be popping by for a roll of toilet paper.

God bless.

I hate to see the waste too. I agree but you will really eat and be prepared but not a hoarder and end up throwing it away.

The same thing happens here. The news people make it sound like every little weather blip is the next apocalypse. Seriously, the first thing to go in our store is milk and eggs. How long do you think milk and eggs are going to last if the power goes out. (I guess if it is a snowstorm you can put those things out on the porch.)
